Last week, we invited our Causes members to answer a brief survey about your connection to and involvement with music education—and the response was great. Thank you to all who took the time to answer and most importantly to share why music education matters to you! More than 170 people told us why music was important to them—some cited a family connection, others a school or community connection—and the overwhelming majority wrote about the positive impact of music in their lives.

Here is what the survey told us about Cause members—

• You are passionate advocates, lovers of music, and believers in the positive impact of music education.
• You are actively playing/performing music—either alone, with friends, or with a community group.
• You are looking for ways to advocate for music education programs at the local and state level.
• You are interested in attending music performances and events.
• You want to connect with others through social media.
   

Honestly, we were inspired by the comments and responses. Now it is our turn to inspire you!
March is Music In Our Schools Month^® (MIOSM^®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. Over the next several weeks, we are going to be posting essays written/read by students across the country around the MIOSM theme Music! Just Imagine…

March is a great time to celebrate in your school and community and raise awareness of the importance of school music! Each week we will also give you some ideas and resources for helping to spread the word about music education.

Here’s our first idea—below are two short items about MIOSM. Post one on your Facebook wall or Twitter account, and then add it to your e-mail signature.

March is Music In Our Schools Month^® (MIOSM^®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. Celebrate MIOSM in your school and community and raise awareness of the importance of school music! Sing along with the World’s Largest Concert, download and share public service announcements, and check out MENC’s activity ideas and advocacy resources.
