Call for Papers and Presentations
1st MENC Biennial National Conference on Research in Music Education and Music Teacher Education
Anaheim, California, March 25-27, 2010

The National Association for Music Education (MENC) will sponsor a meeting to disseminate research in music education. The meeting will be held in Anaheim, California, March 25-27, 2010. The Society for Research Music Education of MENC calls for submissions to:

(A) present original research in music education at poster sessions

and/or

(B) organize a session related to research in music education.

A. Poster submission
Researchers whose papers are selected for presentation at the poster session will be required to prepare a presentation of their research, be available during the presentation session to discuss their work, and furnish full copies of their reports to interested parties. Those who wish to submit a report for consideration should comply with the following:

1. Papers submitted for presentation must conform to the Code of Ethics of the Journal of Research in Music Education (at www.menc.org), in that (a) papers should not have been presented at another major conference; (b) if the data have been presented in whole or substantive part in any forum or at previous research sessions, a statement specifying particulars of the above including audience and sponsoring organization must be included with the submission; and (c) the paper may have been submitted for publication but not yet published.

2. The research may be of any type, but must provide original findings. Experimental studies must conform to the most recent Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. Other types of studies may conform to the most recent editions of A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations (Turabian) or The Chicago Manual of Style.

3. When submitting, you will be asked to provide information about the author, a 250-word abstract, a paper not exceeding 6000 words and less than 2MB. The paper should contain no clues as to author identity or institutional affiliation. Incomplete submissions (e.g., projects in progress, reports without abstracts, requested information not present, etc.) will not be reviewed.

B. Session submission
Researchers may submit a proposal for a session on topics related to research in music education. The proposal may consist of the presentation of a single paper or symposium (multiple papers), panel discussion, workshop, demonstration, forum, or any other format suitable for a 50- or 75-minute session. The session may address any topic relevant to research in music education such as, but not limited to, K-12 education, technology, funding for the arts, assessment, policy, research methods, music and culture, etc. Those who wish to submit a proposal for consideration should comply with the following:

1. You may send submissions for poster presentation and session presentation but the content of the submissions should be substantially different. For example, a session presentation may include research presented at poster sessions but must also include original information.

2. When submitting, you will be asked to provide a 1-page CV of each presenter, a 250-word description of the relevance of the proposal to research in music education, your preference for a 50- or 75-minute session, and a 750-word description of the session. The documents must be attached in Word Document (.doc), or Portable Document (.pdf) format. Other formats will not be accepted. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.
