Brush Up On Copyright

Before the students arrive, it’s good to review copyright issues that affect music teachers.

Copyright Series:

Copyright: Changing Lyrics
Copyright: Recording and Selling Student Performances
Copyrights (& Wrongs): Arranging, Adapting, Transcribing
Copyright: The Public Domain Maze
Copyright: Performance Exemptions
Copyright: Performance Licenses
Copyright: Parody

Also, look at MENC’s Copyright Center.

Learn about Harry Fox Agency's Songfile®, an easy and fast way for those who plan to make and distribute 2,500 copies or less of their recordings to obtain the necessary mechanical licenses for cover versions of songs. Licenses can be obtained for CDs, cassettes, LPs, or permanent digital downloads. This service was developed through a collaboration among The Harry Fox Agency, MENC, The Music Teachers National Association, and the Music Publishers’ Association.
