Program description: Ithaca College will be offering a series of Graduate Workshops from June 29-July 3, 2008:

  • Northeast Wind Conducting Symposium. This symposium is designed to investigate and improve techniques of conducting and rehearsing, as well as to explore topics like repertoire, rehearsal techniques, score study, and setting and maintaining standards. The 2008 symposium will be led by Richard Floyd (University of Texas) and Stephen Peterson (Ithaca College).
  • Choral Music Experience: From Gahu to Gloria: Singing, Drumming, and Dancing in the Choral Community. Ithaca College professors Janet Galvan and Jennifer Haywood, along with guest artist Kathy Armstrong, will instruct participants on how to incorporate West African material into any choral setting.
  • Successful Leadership in Contemporary Music Education. Ithaca College professor Keith Kaiser and guest clinician Edward S. Lisk will examine effective leadership and its relationship to the successful music education process. Topics include leadership models, mission development and goal setting, principle-centered leadership, advocacy, conflict management, and affecting change.
  • Ithaca Flute Institute. The Institute, conducted by Leone Buyse (Rice University), Wendy Mehne (Ithaca College) and other special guests, will offer flute master classes, concerts, workshops, and warm-up sessions. Additional topics covered include creative programming, preparing auditions, selecting proper instruments, and yoga for flutists.
