Here's an opportunity for your students to get creative for MIOSM®! Students are to write a song based on the 2009 Music In Our Schools Month® theme, “Music! Just Imagine…” Songs will be judged on originality, melody, and lyrics by an MENC member panel. The top three songs will be announced in March 2009. Your student’s song may be selected to be performed in a future World’s Largest Concert®.

SONG WRITING CONTEST ENTRY FORM
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Teacher must be an MENC member and submit application on behalf of his or her student(s).
2. Teacher may select up to three (3) student songs to submit to MENC.
3. Song must be written by a student who is between grades 7-12.
Rules:
1. Song must be based on the theme: “Music! Just Imagine…”
2. Song must have a title.
3. Song must not exceed 5 minutes in duration.
4. A musical score and separate lyric sheet must accompany application.
5. Song must include at least one voice part and may include up to four parts (SATB).
6. Optional: Song can include piano, orchestral, or other instrumental accompaniment.
7. Optional: You may include an audio recording of your song (must be on CD).
8. Plagiarism of copyrighted material is illegal. It is the responsibility of the composer to assure that music submitted is not copyrighted. If any elements of the composition entry are copyrighted, it is the responsibility of the composer to secure permission for use of those elements.
