Thank you for your interest in publishing a book with MENC: The National Association for Music Education. Please do not send us full-length manuscripts. We do, however, welcome book proposals.

Please provide two packets of information containing of each of the following items:

A cover letter that describes why a book on the subject is needed. In this letter, please tell us what other books have been published on the same subject within the past couple of years and why your is different and/or better. Describe your audience (music educators and beyond), and how they would benefit from your book. Tell us how much time you think you might need to complete the manuscript. Give us a general idea of how comfortable you feel about promoting your book (Web site creation, author appearances, etc.).

Chapter titles or headings and a synopsis of what each chapter will cover. Let us know your ideas for photographs, illustrations, appendix, index, etc. Also, we need to know if any part of your book has been published previously and if so, where? Will written permission to use copyrighted material need to be obtained?

1-3 sample chapters (maximum).

A separate piece of paper with author bio or r©sum©. List any previous publishing experience and qualifications to write on the topic.

As you are putting together your MENC Book Proposal, please leave out any mention of author name or affiliations (except in the résumé section)—we would like the author to remain anonymous as the proposal is reviewed by committee at MENC.
