JMTE Guidelines for Contributors

The purpose of the Journal of Music Teacher Education is to disseminate information about MENC’s Society for Music Teacher Education and the ways that SMTE can strengthen teacher education, to serve as a clearinghouse for ideas among professors of music education, and to effect a sense of unity among them. The journal, a publication of MENC, welcomes manuscripts for possible publication. When submitting an article, contributors should adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. All articles must be related to music teacher education. Manuscripts may be of a philosophical, historical, descriptive, experimental, or methodological nature. Two general types of submissions are considered. Projects producing new data (research articles) and papers having underpinnings in research, but not resulting in new data, that expand the knowledge base of the profession (interest articles).
  2. All articles should be double-spaced and not exceed twenty pages.
  3. Manuscript style should conform to the most recent edition of the Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association. Articles describing research should include discussion of implications for teacher educators.
  4. Articles should be unique and not published elsewhere. It is considered unethical to send articles for consideration to multiple journals at the same time.
  5. Articles should be submitted with a cover page listing the author’s name, address, and current professional position as a separate file. All institutional names or other identifying information should be removed from the body of the article in order to facilitate blind review.
  6. Contributors should send one copy of the article as an Adobe Acrobat Personal Document Format (pdf) file (either by mail, on a CD, or attached to an email sent to wfredrickson@fsu.edu) in which the cover page and any institutional names or other identifying information have been removed. Please address all correspondence to: Dr. William Fredrickson, Academic Editor - JMTE, College of Music, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL, 32306-1180.
