How to Activate Your Member Online Access to JRME

As one of your benefits of MENC and Society for Research in Music Education (SRME) membership, you have access to the online version of the Journal of Research in Music Education (JRME), published by SAGE Publications. You also get the printed version of the journal four times per year.

New subscribers and first-time users: Below are instructions for setting up your account to view JRME online.

Current subscribers/members experiencing difficulty logging in should review all these steps, making sure you’ve taken steps 6-8, particularly:

The most important first step to view JRME online is setting up a SAGE username and password. Without this step, you won't be able to view JRME online. (Note: The SAGE user information you set up for JRME can't be the same information you used for one of SAGE’s free access trials.)

Once you set up your SAGE username for access to JRME, you'll then only need your MENC member number and e-mail to access JRME from the MENC Web site. (If you choose to log into JRME through the SAGE site instead, you will need the SAGE login info you created).

Read the instructions below, and if you have any questions or concerns, contact Caroline Arlington.

1. Start at the MENC Resources/Periodicals page.
    
2. Scroll down to the Journal of Research in Music Education (after Music Educators Journal and Teaching Music) and click on “Search and view issues of Journal of Research in Music Education -- Login required.”  This will take you to the MENC member login page for JRME.
    
3. Enter your MENC member number and username (username is the e-mail MENC has on file for you; your member number is nine digits). Enter all nine digits, including all preceding zeros. (If you forget your MENC member number or the e-mail MENC has on file for you, contact MENC Member Services, 800-828-0229).
    
4. You will then be directed to the JRME page; click on the SAGE link.
    
5. This will take you to jrme.sagepub.com. On the left side of this page, click on “Activation/Account Manager.” It will take you to the subscription page.
    
6. Under “Activation (one-time only)," click on "Activate your editor/society member subscription,” which will take you to the activation page.
   
   You will see a prompt for: “Customer/Member number.” Here, enter your nine-digit MENC member number, including the zeros. Do not cut and paste your member info into the SAGE site—you must type the numbers in. (If you're not sure of your member number, check with MENC Member Services, 800-828-0229.)
    
7. After you enter your MENC member number, select "The National Association for Music Education (MENC)" from the pull-down Society menu. Click "Submit," and then follow the simple instructions.
    
8. On the “Instructions” page, check your personal data on file with SAGE at that page, then enter a username and password you'll remember (this is your “SAGE” username and password), and click “Submit” to confirm the activation. Do not click the "Journal Title" link until the confirmation process is completed.
    
9. Once you've completed the activation process, you can return to the journal homepage. To access the current issue, select the journal cover or click on “Current Issue.” Archived back copies are also available for viewing.
    

Trouble-Shooting

If You Forget Your MENC Member Number or Primary E-mail

Contact MENC Member Services, 800-828-0229.

If You Forget Your SAGE Username or Password

1. Go to jrme.sagepub.com and click on "Activation/Account Mgr."
    
2. Look under the section, "Managing your Subscription to Journal of Research in Music Education."
    
3. Click on "What to do if you forget your Username and/or Password."
    
4. The username will always be an e-mail address. (If you don’t have an e-mail address, call customer service at 805-410-7318 or e-mail Shelly Monroe.
    

If You Receive Notice You Have Already Registered

If you receive notice that you have “already registered,” there may be two causes:

1. You receive access to another SAGE journal through another association.
    
2. You have previously registered for a SAGE global or discipline free trial or another SAGE offer.
    

If you receive this message, register with a different e-mail address than the one you used for the other journal(s).

Sign up for E-TOC alerts at jrme.sagepub.com so you can receive notification whenever a new issue is posted online.
 

Access to Other MENC Journals

To access other MENC journals on the SAGE website (General Music Today, UPDATE, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Music Educators Journal), you only need your MENC member number and username (the e-mail MENC has on file for you). You must go through the MENC Periodicals page and follow the prompts. If you are having difficulty accessing the MENC journals, contact Caroline Arlington.

If you are not sure of your member number or the e-mail MENC has for you, check with MENC Member Services, 800-828-0229.

Enter the full nine-digit MENC member number including the zeros, and the username on the MENC sites is the e-mail address MENC has on file for you.
