Apple MacBook with I Gig of ram upgrade
Mbox 2
2 AT4040 or possibly AT3035 condenser mics.
The Mbox is a audio interface device that allows you to transfer the signal from the mics to your laptop. It also comes bundled with Pro Tools LE which is more than adequate for school uses. The MacBook also comes with Garageband which you can use to record live audio from the mics through the Mbox 2 and mix it with prerecorded audio loops, etc. I just recently purchased a MacBook and can say that it is the best computer that I have ever owned and better than most computers that I have used.
In addition to the above equipment you will need xlr mic cables and stands for the mics. The AT4040 and AT3035 come with shock mounts so make sure that the stands you by can accommodate them. Also if you are recording an ensemble in a large room, like an auditorium, you should get a mic stand that will raise the mics a least 9 ft in the air.
Hope this helps. E-mail me if not.
