TELEVISION RESOURCE: “MUSIC FROM THE INSIDE OUT” - The acclaimed documentary “Music From the Inside Out” comes to television on Tuesday, May 2, at 10:00 p.m., as part of the PBS Independent Lens series. The film is an exploration of music, through the stories, the passion, and the artistry of the musicians of The Philadelphia Orchestra. PARTICIPATE: CALL FOR MEMBER PHOTOS - Send MENC a digital color photo of yourself for possible inclusion in a special display in the August 2006 issue of Teaching Music. Photos must be 300 dpi and no bigger than 4 by 6 inches. Send photos to angig@menc.org no later than May 12, 2006.
MEMBER OPPORTUNITY: ARTS EDUCATION PART OF SUMMER WORKSHOPS - The U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher-to-Teacher Initiative has opened registration for its free summer workshops: https://www.t2tweb.us/Workshops/About.asp . Due to overwhelming feedback and high demand, Teacher-to-Teacher will be offering more workshops for teachers this summer than ever before - 14 in all. Arts education continues to be a part of the Summer Workshops, with more sessions available this year.
MEMBER OPPORTUNITY: DALLAS WIND SYMPHONY ANNUAL CALL FOR FANFARES - The Dallas Wind Symphony seeks Brass Fanfares for its 2006-2007 Concert Season. All composition titles will be credited in the DWS printed program with the composers’ name. Submit scores and complete parts to: Dallas Wind Symphony, PO BOX 595026, Dallas, TX 75359-5026 by July 15, 2006. From her musical beginnings in Columbia to her breakthrough success on the American music scene, VH1 documents her rise to fame and success, including all the triumphs and setbacks along the way. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: CAITLIN MERIE HURREY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - Applications are now being accepted for the Caitlin Merie Hurrey Memorial Scholarship Fund, including a new $500 grant available to MENC Collegiate seniors in the spring of 2006. Two other scholarships are offered, one to a high school senior with a personal connection to Huntingtown (MD) Elementary and one to the son or daughter of an MENC member. GRANT OPPORTUNITY: ARTS EXCHANGES ON INTERNATIONAL ISSUES - The U.S. State Department announces an open competition for grants to implement programs using the arts to engage underserved youth in selected countries abroad, and foster linkages and build partnerships between U.S. and overseas non-profit arts and cultural organizations. These international arts exchange projects will encourage democracy building by demonstrating the opportunities for freedom of thought and expression and underscoring the importance of empowerment in an open society.
