Sorry, just re-read your post. Yes, I do like the Tascam as stated. One reason to consider the Tascam over the Roland is that it comes bundled with Cubase LE and GigaStudio LE. Both support PC and Apple Core Audio standards.

I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Just to throw another option, M-Audio's USB/Midi Audiphile USB is a comparable option and is about $50.00 less than the Tascam. It is not as robust as the other two, but it may be what you need and I have read good reviews about it as well.

: I am a fan of the Roland/Edirol UA 25. I have one; it works great.

: It has great port features:
: A pair of Neutrik XLR/TRS combo jacks with Phantom power, Hi-Z port for guitar direct connection, S/PDIF optical I/O ports and MIDI IN/OUT ports.

: Best of All it support ASIO standards for Midi/Audio, so it has next to no latency issues

: It has a great feature set and you can get it for around $200.00 US

: Tascam also makes a nice one for under $200.00 US
: the Tascam US-122

: I would reccomend checking soundtree or sweetwater for more information and help deciding if need be.

: There are also a lot that cost a whole bunch more, but these ones will most likely do the job for most people.

: If you are looking for a low cost ASIO solutoin for MIDI only, I reccomend the Roland UA1EX. It's the only one I know of that has ASIO 2.0 drivers/USB and is under $100.00 US

: : I guess what I really want would be a audio preamp interface
