The Professional Development for Arts Educators (PDAE) Grant Program at the U.S. Department of Education is seeking peer reviewers for a grant competition. The program supports the implementation of professional development model programs in music and the other arts for K–12 students in high-poverty schools. Grants (30 awards to local agencies) are intended to strengthen the capacity of teachers and schools to deliver standards-based arts education and to raise student academic achievement in the arts. Awards range in size from $100,000 to $350,00 a year for up to three years contingent on future appropriations. Awards will support the professional development programs for K–12 arts educators and other instructional staff that use innovative instructional methods and knowledge from education research. Focus can be on standards-based arts education or on the integration of standard-based instruction with other core academic content. Individuals selected as peer reviewers will receive an honorarium. The program is looking to recruit 60 reviewers to read and score 10–12 applications each sometime during late March. The peer reviewer role is a crucial part of the grant-making process. For a list of criteria or for answers to any questions, please contact either Adrienne Dukes or Isadora Binder at Artspd@ed.gov. Applications, which must be sent in by February 15, 2008, must include a current resume and a completed peer reviewer checklist, which is available by e-mailing Professional Development for Arts Educators (PDAE) Grant Program, Artspd@ed.gov.
