Your help is needed! The National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) is conducting a multi-year review of its accreditation standards and your assistance is requested. The NASM Standards have a broad impact on music in higher education and especially on the preparation of future professionals in our field. All of us have an interest in developing the best possible standards. To learn more about NASM go to http://nasm.arts-accredit.org.

At this time, NASM is seeking comment on any and all of its current standards, in other words, on standards about specific issues and the standards statement as a whole. The standards are found on pages 45-148 of the 2005-2006 NASM Handbook. Your comments on this text will be used to inform other phases of the comprehensive review and will be deeply appreciated by NASM.

The deadline for comment is July 8, 2005. I strongly urge you to read the standards, especially in areas where you have the most education and experience, and provide comment directly to NASM at mail@arts-accredit.org.

For free access to the Handbook, instructions and a response form please go to
http://nasm.arts-accredit.org/index.jsp?page=Standards+Review . Your comments will be treated confidentially. Please give special attention to the five major questions posed about the effectiveness of the present standards text outlined on the response form.

For future reference, you may participate in and keep current with the entire NASM standards review by visiting http://nasm.arts-accredit.org and clicking on Standards Review. The standards review process is open to all.
