This is my strings placement. We have a fifth grade beginning strings class with violins and violas (21 students), plus my other strings (6th grade beginning orchestra, 7th & 8th grade combined performing orchestra, and two orchestras at the high school level.) I'm being phased in and given complete charge of the 5th grade twice a week program. She wanted me to work on note-reading with them and any other concepts I felt like presenting. They are just finishing up Old McDonald in the Essential Elements 2000 book.

I started viola in 8th grade and never had many classroom strings experience, only private lessons and community youth orchestras and camps, so I don't have a lot of previous experience to draw on to make these kinds of tasks creative and fun for a larger group.

I appreciate any advice or suggestions on this or just in general!

Thanks!

: Hi,Joanna, Is this a strings placement, general music, something else? I will still be very happy to send you some ideas, but it would be good to know the focus of this placement. Thanks much, Sue
