Over the last weekend, I had the opportunity to present two clinics at the Washington State MENC convention at Yakima. WMEA is the unified general music/band/orchestra/choir/higher education music education organization for Washington State.
The convention was organized at the professional level with plenty of offerings for each interest area together with student performances and All-State Honors ensembles.
I found the teachers friendly, receptive, enquiring, and hungry for new ideas to improve their craft. There was a good feeling of collegiality.
Although Yakima is a smaller city, it is centrally located in the state. The local facilities house such a convention comfortably from hotels to parking to technical support.
