I guess by transcribe I meant give them the flute, oboe, or violin music and they'd just play that. They may have to change octaves, that'd be the only change you'd have to make. I would think that this would be allowable since most Bach violin and Cello works are more and more becoming standard Marimba literature. I guess I remember being in middle school and not being able to find music that I would want to play for contest, so I always just wrote my own music. That may be something to think about. (though I admit it was probably easier to write a snare solo as a 6th grader than it would have been to write a xylophone solo. But I don't see why it couldn't be possible.)
: I asked our state about something like this. And I don't know if it will be allowed. They were pretty adamant it be as written only. I'd have to see if another instrument would be allowed.
: : Transcribe some other solo for him that will fit the range, some good suggestions to look at flute, oboe, and violin solos.

: : I have a xylophone player whos ability has outgrown our xylophone. It is a 3 octave Middle C being the lowest note. I'm looking for medium, maybe medium easy solos. Unfortunetly, a new xylo is not an option.
: : : Any help on this would be VERY MUCH appreciated.
