MENC: The National Association for Music Education Recognizes Outstanding Collegiate Chapters
Nine Student Chapters Recognized for Excellence in Projects, Programs, and Recruitment Techniques
RESTON, VA (May 2, 2006) “ MENC: The National Association for Music Education recognized nine Collegiate membership chapters for excellence in projects, programs, or recruitment techniques during the past two years. The recipient chapters were selected by MENC Collegiate leadership, and plaques were presented by the MENC Collegiate Student Division Representatives at the Collegiate Reception on Thursday, April 20, in the Alpine Ballroom of the Hilton Salt Lake City Center Hotel, during MENC™s 60th National Biennial In-Service Conference.
The Chapter of Excellence Recognition was developed to distinguish chapters for their successful chapter projects, programs, and recruitment techniques. This recognition is conferred in national conference years and is based on the significant contributions made by the chapter to the development of the MENC Collegiate membership program at its institution during the two years prior to the national conference.
The outstanding work of these exemplary chapters represents a burgeoning group of pre-service music educators who are committed to providing quality music education for every student in our country, said Mark Britt of Furman University, MENC national Collegiate membership chair. The collegiate members of MENC are key to the future success of music education, and these Chapter of Excellence recognitions confirm a commitment from MENC to support the fine work that these future teachers accomplish each day.
Chapters submitted a description and a Chapter of Excellence application for each chapter activity to be considered. Activities completed in the two years prior to January 1 of a national conference year (even numbered years) are eligible for the Chapter of Excellence Recognition. Descriptions and applications were evaluated based on the quality and effectiveness of methods.
We have a growing number of chapters who are eligible each year for these recognitions and this year™s application pool was particularly strong, continued Britt. Those chapters who received recognition should be justly proud of their accomplishments. And of course, there are numerous other chapters which do marvelous work “ and their accomplishments certainly do not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
