MENC: The National Association for Music Education Announces Tri-M® Chapter of the Year Recognition Winners
RESTON, VA (May 12, 2006) -- MENC: The National Association for Music Education proudly announces the results of the Tri-M® Chapter of the Year Recognition. The Tri-M® Music Honor Society rewards exceptional middle school and high school music students throughout the world. The Chapter of the Year Recognition was developed specifically to offer opportunities for recognizing outstanding Tri-M members and chapters. The Senior Division winner for the Chapter of the Year is W. T. Clarke High School, Tri-M Chapter #1768, co-advised by Robin Hall and Paul LuConti, located in Westbury, New York, part of the East Meadows School District.
Clarke™s Tri-M Chapter was chartered in 1984. They have previously received the New York State Chapter of the Year Recognition in 2003, but this is their first time receiving the National recognition. This year™s chapter, in particular the board members, are all so active, motivated and excited, says Robin Hall, They worked so hard for this and they really do deserve it.
The first runner-up in the Senior Division is Nazareth Academy Tri-M Chapter #2096, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and advised by Marge Lafferty. The second runner-up is Herricks High School, Tri-M Chapter #1975, located in New Hyde Park, New York, and advised by Anissa Gonenn.
The Junior Division Chapter of the Year is Hubbard Middle School Tri-M Chapter #3085, located in Tyler, Texas and advised by Nancy Epperson. Beecher Road School Tri-M Chapter #4587, located in Woodbridge, Connecticut and advised by William Letsch, is the first runner-up, followed by the second runner-up, Upper Township Middle School Tri-M Chapter #4881, located in Petersburg, New Jersey, advised by Angie Wyers.
All active chapters of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and their members are eligible to participate in the Tri-M Music Honor Society™s Recognitions Program. The Chapter of the Year Summer Music Scholarship Recognitions Program is designed to motivate and reward chapters that develop active service projects, to encourage chapter officers to perform their duties properly, and to increase awareness of what other Tri-M chapters are doing. Summer music scholarships are awarded to members of the winning chapter and the two runner-ups in each division. The Senior and Junior Chapter of the Year also receive a permanent engraved service plaque.
Tri-M currently has more than 42,000 members in more than 5,000 chartered chapters worldwide. The purpose of the Tri-M Music Honor Society is to inspire music participation, create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, and promote leadership in the music students of secondary schools.
