MENC: The National Association for Music Education Announces Collegiate Chapter Growth Recognition for 2005-2006

Chapter Growth Seen as Critical to Future of Music Education Profession

RESTON, VA (May 2, 2006) “ MENC: The National Association for Music Education has announced the recipients of its Collegiate membership program™s Chapter Growth Certificates of Achievement. This program was established to stimulate growth in Collegiate membership. Since its inception in 1986, Collegiate chapters have received national and statewide recognition for significant chapter growth. The recognition is given to chapters that increase their enrollment from the previous year.

MENC is committed to addressing growing concerns over teacher shortages in the fine arts, said Mark Britt of Furman University, MENC national Collegiate Membership chair. The Chapter Growth Certificates are one way that we recognize this commitment among our collegiate membership. An increasing number of young people are seeing the importance and value of a career in music education, and this recognition validates the work that these pre-service educators and their chapter advisors accomplish throughout the academic year.
