2006 NSBA/MENC Student Electronic Music Composition Talent Search Winners Announced

 

RESTON, VA (May 25, 2006) -- Sponsored by MENC: The National Association for Music Education and the National School Boards Association (NSBA), the Electronic Music Composition Talent Search recognizes outstanding compositions and is held to help influence school administrators to include or improve music technology in their schools™ curriculum.

The high school winner, Alex Davis from Severna Park High School in Severna Park, Maryland, won with his composition Broken Dreams. Paris Deesing from Valley Preparatory School in Redlands, California was the middle school winner with her composition Cirque du Chats, and Andrew Tufano, from Horizon Elementary School in Sterling, Virginia, was the elementary school winner with his composition, Beats All.

Entries were judged based on their aesthetic quality, effective use of electronic media, and the power of the composition and its presentation in communicating to school board members, administrators, and others, the excitement and effectiveness of electronic music composition in the school curriculum.

The students will be honored at the NSBA's 2006 T+L Conference, November 8-10, 2006, in Dallas, Texas (www.nsba.org/t+l).

Prizes for students, their teachers, and their schools were provided courtesy of Sibelius Inc., Carl Fischer Music, and MENC.
