MENC staff commemorated the 194th anniversary of the penning of "The Star-Spangled Banner" today by singing America's national anthem at the entrance of the National Center for Music Education in Reston, VA.

The staff joined thousands of members and students nationwide in a 9:00 a.m. local time celebration outside schools and public buildings. MENC encourages members to celebrate National Anthem Day annually to spotlight the important role music education plays in teaching students historical and cultural traditions and to raise awarenes of music's critical place in a complete education.
