Call for Nominations: Music Educators Journal Advisory Board

Call for Nominations:
Music Educators Journal Advisory Board

MENC is seeking nominations for a new group of contributors to the work of Music Educators Journal, the MEJ Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will consist of forty members. Given the important and unique mission of the Music Educators Journal, we are especially interested in nominations from populations that have been historically underrepresented in MEJ’s editorial process, including practicing K–12 music educators (especially those working in urban settings) and early-career music teacher educators/professors, as these groups represent critical and valued constituencies of the MEJ’s intended audience.

Initially, Advisory Board members will be appointed to either a one-year or a three-year term, assigned on a staggered basis. Beginning in 2010, full terms of four years will be in effect, with half the positions on the Advisory Board standing for election every two years. It is expected that Advisory Board members will work closely with their counterparts on the Editorial Board, contributing their expertise as appropriate in the review of submissions, and participating in deliberations about the editorial direction of MEJ (e.g., topics for Special Focus issues).

Qualifications for Advisory Board members: Active MENC membership, a record of three years of full-time teaching at the elementary, secondary, or college level, continuing interest and involvement in teaching activity that clearly establishes a developing or emerging interest and/or expertise in terms of conducting reviews of the type of articles published in MEJ, and a record of regular attendance at state MEA and/or national professional conferences.

Responsibilities: Participate as needed in the editorial process of MEJ as determined by the Academic Editor and MENC Editor and the NEB. Advisory Board members, though not required to attend, will be encouraged to attend any regularly scheduled meetings of the Editorial Board and will be invited to participate fully in editorial deliberations at these meetings. Advisory Board members must consider all valid perspectives in research and practice and provide thorough written reviews of all assigned manuscripts in a timely manner. The term of office for the MEJ Advisory Board is four years, beginning July 1 of the year of selection.

Application instructions: All nominations must be submitted electronically; self-nominations are accepted. In the body of the e-mail, include a letter of nomination for the candidate; attach a one-page curriculum vitae or resume as an attachment labeled with the nominee’s last name in Word Document format (.doc) or as a Portable Document format (.pdf) [e.g., “Smith.doc,” or “Smith.pdf”]. Other formats will not be accepted.

Please send all materials via e-mail only no later than January 31, 2009, to Mitchell Robinson (mrob@msu.edu), Academic Editor and Chair, MEJ Editorial Committee, College of Music, Michigan State University.
