Professional Development Opportunities Ahead as MENC Announces June 2011 Academies

During the 2010 IN-ovations Academy, facilitator Glen McCarthy discussed guitar instruction with attendees.

Music educators will find high-quality professional development opportunities and in-depth teaching sessions at MENC’s annual Music Education Week, June 24–28, 2011, in Washington, DC.

Members of the MENC Professional Development Committee are finalizing plans for ten intensive two-day academies:

  • 21st Century Skills
  • Arts Integration
  • Choral
  • Composition
  • Ethnic Music Ensembles
  • General music
  • Instrumental
  • Jazz
  • Marching Music
  • Mobile Music Technology

Academy planners aim to offer professional development instruction that music educators will find immediately useful in the classroom.

Music Education Week is MENC’s annual national event. It provides members with opportunities for music education advocacy, intensive professional development, performances, and product display and awareness. Registration and complete schedule information will be announced later this fall.
