News From Music Education Week: Saturday, June 25

Music Education Week was in full swing on Saturday with the final day of the Marching Music Academy. Participants attended classroom lectures and demonstrations and then headed to Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia, for field demonstrations.

The Boston Crusaders drum corps later competed with the Madison (Wisconsin) Scouts, the Spirit of Atlanta, and the Crossmen of San Antonio, Texas, in the DCI Salutes America Event. The Scouts took first place. Directed by MENC President-Elect Nancy Ditmer, MENC All-National Honor Ensemble students sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the start of the DCI event.

Elsewhere on Saturday, the MENC National Executive Board met, and the Research Academy started classes. Exhibits and the MENC Resource Center opened. MENC’s All-National Honor Ensemble members continued rehearsals for the band, orchestra and choral concerts on Sunday and the jazz concert on Monday.
