MENC President, Kentucky Commissioner of Education Address KMEA Members

Terry Holliday (left), Kentucky commissioner of education; MENC President Scott C. Shuler; and Kentucky Music Educators Association President Joe Stites gathered at the February 2011 KMEA conference.

Shuler and Holliday shared a keynote address and later discussed a possible statewide accountability system for music and other arts.

Holliday was named to his current post in 2009. Earlier in his career, he was an assistant principal, director of instrumental music, and a band director in South Carolina. He served as superintendent of the more than 20,000-student Iredell-Statesville school district in North Carolina from 2002 until 2009. Among other honors, Holliday was named the 2008 North Carolina Music Educators Association Superintendent of the Year.
