On March 14, MENC members attending the Eastern Division Conference were featured in an extensive article in the Providence Journal. MENC's ongoing collaboration with Nintendo was also mentioned in the article. MENC members have been testing Nintendo's Wii Music in their classrooms for the last several months.

While at the conference, Mahlmann and MENC National President Barbara Geer were interviewed about the importance of strong school music programs by several television news crews.
