Arlington, VA Music Students Perform at Department of Education

On May 4, 2010, students of MENC member Denny D’Alelio, Wakefield High School, Arlington, VA performed at the U.S. Department of Education for the opening of the Colorado Student Art Exhibit. Student performers were Elizabeth O’Neil, oboe, and Eleanor Heisey, violin. In attendance were:
 

  • Doug Herbert, Special Assistant, Office of Innovation and Improvement at the U.S. Department of Education
  • Brad Jupp, Senior Program Advisor, Office of the Secretary of Education
  • Peter Groff, Director of the Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the U.S. Department of Education and former Colorado State Senate President
  • Deborah Reeve, Executive Director, National Art Education Association
  • Cheri Isgreen, 2008-09 Teaching Ambassador Fellow at the U.S. Department of Education and art teacher at Cottonwood and Northside Elementary schools in Montrose, Colo.
  • Kate Anderson, British Council/British Embassy
  • Abigail Byrd, artist
  • Tim Mikulski, Americans for the Arts
  • Andy Finch, Association of Art Museum Directors
  • Student artists from Colorado public schools
     

 

"MENC has worked with the Department of Education for years," said MENC Sr. Deputy Executive Director Mike Blakeslee, "and we are always happy to help them enliven their events with student performances that demonstrate the power of music."
