Eastern Division


Christine Hadfield

Christine Hadfield is a junior instrumental music education major with a concentration in flute and a minor in voice at the University of Delaware. At Delaware she is the drum major of the Fightin’ Blue Hen Marching Band, a member of the Wind Ensemble, Schola Cantorum, Pep Band, and she serves as a Spirit Ambassador to Alumni Relations. In addition to CMENC, she is a member of ACDA, GIML, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

North Central Division


Rachel Gasper

Rachel Gasper graduated in 2007 from Kettle Moraine High School in Wales, WI, where she earned the John Philip Sousa Band Award for superior musicianship and outstanding dedication to the band program. Upon graduation, she began at Western Michigan University where she is currently studying music education as a member of Dr. Lin Foulk’s Horn Studio. At WMU, Rachel performs with the Symphonic Band, Campus Band, Horn Choir, Bronco Marching Band, and Bronco Pep Band. As an active member of CMENC Rachel serves as her chapter’s Relations Officer and is one of the Collegiate Representatives for the state of Michigan. She also works as an office staff member, librarian, and historian for the Bronco Marching Band.

Northwest Division


Christina Hardman

Christina Hardman enjoys life as a Music Education student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and looks forward to teaching in the near future. In the past years of college, Christina has been involved in several performing groups, including the UAF Wind Symphony, the Choir of the North, and the UAF Clarinet Quartet. While academics are important, Christina has been involved in the Fairbanks community through the Northland Youth Choir by assisting with Music Theory sessions and working with the youngest choir in warm-ups and rehearsals. On campus, Christina has been an officer since Freshman year in 2006 for the MENC Collegiate chapter and has enjoyed helping with annual events such as the Instrument Petting Zoo for the Children's Concert. Recent CMENC activity include presenting at the Research Poster session at the Northwest MENC 2009 Conference for our Oral History Research Project as well as putting together a Distinguished Lecture Series. Christina is grateful for her life in music as well as her time at UAF.

Southern Division


William M. Johnson

William M. Johnson is a Doctoral of Philosophy in Music Education student at the Rudi E Scheidt School of Music, University of Memphis, Memphis, TN. His graduate assistant responsibilities include being a teaching assistant in various music education courses and co-advisor of the MENC Collegiate Chapter. He is a native of Savannah, GA where he graduated from the Savannah High School Performing Arts Academy, where he received “Most Talented” in his senior class. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL where he was a conducting student of Dr. William P. Foster and Dr. Julian E. White. Mr. Johnson completed his Masters of Music Education degree with a concentration in Jazz studies from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL. Prior to his matriculation to the University of Memphis, he taught ten years as a band director in North Carolina, Florida and Georgia. Mr. Johnson is a member of Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (MENC), Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Collegiate Band Directors National Conference (CBDNA), and Tennessee Music Educators Association (TMEA), and Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church.

Southwestern Division


Micah Gooden

Micah Gooden is a senior vocal/instrumental music education major from Missouri State University, in Springfield, Missouri. He is from the Kansas City, MO area. He will be doing his student teaching in the spring semester of 2010. He is also the current state president of Missouri CMENC, until the end of January. He is the past Missouri State University President for two years. After finishing up with school, he plans on attending graduate school, or teaching high school. He is glad to have the opportunity to get his and his fellow collegiate members’ voices heard in reference to music in our community and schools.

Western Division


Rachel Knight

Rachel Knight attended Branham High School in San Jose, California. She was a teacher’s assistant for Concert Band and Symphonic Band, was one of the flute players in the Wind Ensemble, played piccolo in the Marching Band, sang in the Concert Choir, and played in the pit for school musicals. From high school she went on to West Valley Community College, located in nearby Saratoga, California. There she earned Associates degrees in both Music and Liberal Studies. While at West Valley she played in the college’s Symphonic Band, helped out with a local marching band, and gave private music lessons. During this time she also joined the Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps. She is now attending San Jose State University working on her Bachelors of Music with an emphasis on Music Education. She plays flute and piccolo in the University Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Flute Choir and also plays trumpet in the Spartan Marching Band and Pep Band. She has written drill for the Spartan Marching Band, been the uniform manager for two years, and is the leader of the 2009/2010 Winter Pep Band. She has been a part of the collegiate MENC group since she started at San Jose State University. She is now in her second year as the Vice President for her collegiate MENC. She has been teaching general music in local elementary schools since 2008. She co-taught a program for Kindergarten through Third Grade students at Eaton Elementary School in Cupertino, CA during the 2008/2009 school year, and she now has her own program for Kindergarten through Third Grade students at Willow Glen Elementary School in San Jose, CA. She also helped coordinate and run the Summer in the City Summer Music Camp at San Jose State University this past summer.
