MENC's Music Education Week In Washington
June 17-23, 2009
Washington, DC
Music educators, students and their family members are invited to Washington, DC in June 2009 for music education advocacy, professional development, and stirring performances against the backdrop of the nation’s capital’s historic monuments. Events include:
- Intensive “academies" for jazz, technology, and choral and instrumental performance
- Capitol Hill Rally for Music Education
- Mass singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Lincoln Memorial
- American Musical Salute to Abraham Lincoln
- Drum Corps International (DCI) 2009 summer season kick-off
- Society for Research in Music Education: Research Symposium II
- Concerts and Receptions
- 2009 MENC National Leadership Assembly
- Caitlin Classic Golf Tournament

- March to Capitol Hill for visits with members of Congress
- Jazz Academy including evening performance
Friday, June 19
- National Anthem Project at the Lincoln Memorial (mass sing of "The Star-Spangled Banner," concert by the U.S. Marine Band of Lincoln's favorite music)
- Student performances at DC memorials (American Musical Salute to Abraham Lincoln)

- Evening gala concert at the U.S. Air Force Memorial by the Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants with student honors musicians
