Job Description:        Full Time Band Director (Fifth through Twelfth Grade)

Position Available:    August 2010

A full time experienced Band Director is needed for our 5th – 12th grade band program at The Potomac School in McLean, Virginia.  This is a full-time teaching position that will coordinate and conduct four different band programs as follows:

·         Middle School Band (Fifth and Sixth Grade students - beginning band)

·         Intermediate School Band (Seventh and Eighth Grade students)

·         Upper School Concert Band (Ninth through Twelfth Grade Students)

·         Upper School Jazz Band (Ninth through Twelfth Grade Students)

Must have experience in teaching all levels of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments from beginning to advanced.   Must also have experience conducting Jazz Band ensembles.   This position will team teach in the Middle and Intermediate School Divisions.  There are performances all year in each division during the day and the evening.  Experience with district band festivals and competitions a plus. This person should have interest in continuing to develop the band curriculum as well as the skills to teach music history classes in the Upper School.   There are opportunities to teach private lessons outside of the school day.

A true "magnet" program that attracts students from the entire community, approximately 100 students are enrolled in the middle school program and 80 in the high school program. In addition, an Elementary Strings program managed by the Corvallis Youth Symphony Association involves more than 200 students.

Rank and compensation commensurate with education and experience. Primary teaching responsibilities will be undergraduate and graduate classes in choral music education.
